Lyrics

Verse
They say time can stand still down in Mexico
I never knew it until I met her and held her close
Didn’t go there to find love
I loved only my dream of fortune and fame
And thought time moved too slow
Til I went down to Mexico

Chorus
Cities of gold and all that they hold
Can blind us from seeing what matters the most
But in Mexico, hearts seem to know
That love beats a rhythm that speaks to the soul
But I couldn’t let go

Verse
They say truth cannot hide from the light down in Mexico
But I tried to deny what I knew in my heart and soul
I left her ‘cause I held on to that dream she could never have shared
Guess that’s how it goes for a fool down in Mexico

Chorus
Cities of gold and all that they hold
Can blind us from seeing what matters the most
But in Mexico, hearts seem to know
That love beats a rhythm that speaks to the soul
Oh, why did I go?

Verse
I heard there’s a line you must cross down in Mexico
To separate love from life and accept what the truth unfolds
I went back there to find her and we kissed as we crossed hand-in-hand
And love overflowed in the waters of Mexico
Thought I’d lost her when I reached for a dream she could never have shared
But the truth is my dream was still waiting in Mexico
And she said “Now, you’re home here in Mexico”
Oh oh now you’re home here in Mexico
